Over the Thanksgiving break, I had an opportunity to see a lot of the family for the holidays, something that has not been a possibility since joining the military.
Typical me, I can’t just go visit family, I had to turn it into an overlanding trip!
I threw a plan together and the kiddo and I hit the road.
I want to take a quick second to talk about the programmer I needed to buy to adjust the speedometer for larger tires on my Jeep.
I have a love, hate relationship with the inner fenders on the JK. I love them because they are very light weight and do an amazing job preventing crap from getting stuck in all the body holes and the engine bay. I hate them because when something gets past the inner fender, it is staying there FOREVER. They also extend needlessly into the area of which the tires need to articulate… why did Jeep do that?
Anyhow, they have to go for the new 35” tires.
When talking about adding bigger tires to the Jeep, I came across some information about what lift size you need for what tires and a long time ago I decided I was never going over a 35” tire so the most I would need would be a 3.5” lift. I was not getting new tires anytime soon back then and I thought a 3.5” lift would look odd on my factory tires.
I saw this note on the chart about getting bigger tires on a smaller lift with flat fenders and that got me thinking. I decided to go with a 2.5” lift with every intention on getting flat fenders to replace the stock ones when I finally got the bigger tires.
